NEW LANDSCAPES is an album of 7 compositions for synthesizer. The images that are paired with it were generated by an AI software program after I uploaded photographs taken during quarantine hikes throughout Southcoast, MA from 3/20 through 11/20. Once uploaded, I let the program create chaos and then gratuitously manipulated the parameters until entirely new images were generated.

No image is explicitly meant to be extraterrestrial, but rather to suggest an underlying logic that is new to us, much like you’d see in a good video game or cartoon. These generative images are intended to exist alongside the musical compositions almost like an installation. The presentation of the images is meant to evoke the popular "motivational" poster style from the 90s.

The psychological experience of reconciling these new landscapes and sounds with the deeply ingrained physical limitations of our personal environments is what this project is meant to focus on. How does the sound of the music change your experience in our shared reality? What do these images evoke for you? And how does it make you feel that both the music and the images were synthesized by computers—with human composition underlying them?
